The fastest way to start is to book a 30-minute consultation with attorney Russel Morgan of Morgan Legal Group using the Calendly link below. We help New York City families with estate planning and probate across all five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — and their respective Surrogate’s Courts.

Schedule a 30-minute consultation directly: https://calendly.com/russel-morgan/30min

The first call is about orientation — understanding your assets, which borough’s Surrogate’s Court applies to you, and what documents or steps you need. There is no obligation.

Service area

Morgan Legal Group serves the five boroughs of New York City. Because venue follows domicile under SCPA 205, your estate is handled by the Surrogate’s Court of the borough where you live:

  • Manhattan — New York County Surrogate’s Court, 31 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10007
  • Brooklyn — Kings County Surrogate’s Court, 2 Johnson Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
  • Queens — Queens County Surrogate’s Court
  • The Bronx — Bronx County Surrogate’s Court
  • Staten Island — Richmond County Surrogate’s Court

What to expect and what to bring

To make the consultation productive, it helps to have on hand:

  • A rough list of your assets, noting which are co-op shares, condos, real property, accounts, and retirement/insurance with named beneficiaries.
  • Any existing will, trust, power of attorney, or health care proxy.
  • For a probate matter: the original will (if any), the death certificate, and a list of close relatives (distributees).
  • Questions about which borough court applies and any deadlines you have received (such as a citation).

Finding your borough’s Surrogate’s Court

If you need to visit a court, locate the one for your borough of domicile (not where property sits): Manhattan’s historic courthouse sits at 31 Chambers Street near City Hall; Brooklyn’s is at 2 Johnson Street in the Civic Center near Cadman Plaza. Verify hours and the correct room with the court before going. For the full court breakdown, see the Surrogate’s Court page and the NYC estate guide.
